Today’s Scripture: Hebrews 6:18, NIV – “God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged.”
The various translations bring different perspectives to Hebrews 6:18. However, in all of them we find that if we take hold of the hope God has given us in His oaths to us, we are greatly encouraged.
Instead of greatly encouraged, the NLT states we find great confidence. The original translation I captured this affirmation from in the Tyndale NLT stated a “new” confidence. We do find encouragement, consolation, and a new confidence in the promises of God.
The New Revised Standard Version states that we are “strongly encouraged to seize the hope set before us.” Let us seize the hope set before us in God, since it is impossible for Him to lie. The truths in His promises and oaths to us give us great encouragement and confidence.
I find great encouragement and a new confidence every time I read the promises of God to us in His Word, do you?
Today’s Prayer: Father God, thank You for the confidence You have given me. I accept Your oath and Your promise. Thank You for Your Word that reveals Your promises to us. I will boldly and confidently complete the promise You have given me in my salvation. Help me Father God as I seize Your hope. I am asking You to show me the way. You are my courage and my hope. Amen
