Today’s Scripture: Hebrews 12:2 NLT Tyndale: We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, on whom our faith depends from start to finish. He was willing to die a shameful death on the cross because of the joy he knew would be his afterward. Now he is seated in the place of highest honor beside God’s throne in heaven.
The writer of Hebrews shows us how to be faithful. We have to look to Jesus and keep our eyes fixed on Him.
Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith. This translation in Tyndale’s 1996 NLT states this a little differently but clearly; our faith depends on Jesus. If we look to ourselves or anything else we get off course. If we keep looking to Jesus we will finish the race God has set before us.
Jesus is the author and perfecter and finisher of our faith. Jesus showed us how He was able to endure the cross because of keeping His eyes on the joy that would be His. We too can look to the joy that will be ours by looking past our current circumstances to the end.
Our faith depends on living for God’s ultimate plan for us and Jesus showed us how. Are you looking to Jesus for faith?
Today’s Prayer: Jesus, You are my faith. Help me to keep my eyes on You. I do want to be faithful to God in all things. Help me to strip off every weight that slows me down. Overwhelm my fears with fear of You. Like those who have gone before me I want to be able to look back from Heaven with You to see the prizes from my race be rewarded through the faith of those I leave behind. Amen
