Today’s Scripture: Judah has gone into exile because of affliction
and hard servitude; she dwells now among the nations,
but finds no resting place; her pursuers have all overtaken her
in the midst of her distress. Lamentations 1:3 ESV
Have you found your resting place? I have traveled thousands of miles and thousands of years this morning and I am not even tired.
Yet, just last night I had a conversation with my wife about being tired. Here in Lamentations I have diagnosed my illness. I am just like the Israelites years ago. I can forget my resting place. Not that I can’t find it, BECAUSE I HAVE. Yet, I can leave this place searching for food only to find the only bread I need is in my resting place.
The Israelites found no resting place among the nations and neither will we. We haven’t changed. We go out searching for food and exhaust ourselves. Like them we find that at the end of our endurance and hope is where we find hope in the LORD.
When I remember the bread of my resting place I am renewed. Where are you seeking rest?
Today’s Prayer: Our Father, thank You for all you have done for Your people. Forgive us LORD for leaving You to seek what the world has to offer. My hope and my rest are all in You LORD. I have exhausted myself seeking the food from this world that does not satisfy and robs me of rest. Thank You for Your resting place that renews me each morning. Help me to stay in this place and remember You in all that I do in the world. Amen
